Bayside House

(2005) The residence is a space full of bright light and moody shadows with a simple layout of space focused on looking outwards while still feeling enclosed and cosy as on board a ship. We wanted  the residence to make a thing that has been left behind, like a shell on a beach, with the soft bits dried up leaving a strangely marked, internally contoured object. With the residence frontage on Beaconsfield Parade, we wanted to have the house engage with the water rather than the roadway and slightly elevated the ground floor level to erase the view of the roadway and frame the body of water beyond.  Photographs by Dianna Snape
